Applications & Heat Treatment Processes
Every heat treatment process places specific demands on temperature, atmosphere and uniformity. NTH Therm delivers the right furnace systems, precise, process-reliable and tailored to your application.
NTH Therm develops and manufactures industrial furnaces for the full spectrum of thermal process engineering. From metal heat treatment through sintering to industrial drying, we provide custom solutions for every requirement: from laboratory prototype to full-scale production plant, from a single furnace to a fully automated line system.
From process to the right furnace
Which design suits which process – with temperature ranges, atmospheres and charge weights in one overview – is set out in the guide Which industrial furnace for which process. If qualification to a standard is involved, AMS2750, CQI-9 and NADCAP explained covers it.

Which heat treatment processes does NTH Therm cover?
Tempering, hardening, annealing, sintering, carburising, drying and preheating – each with the right furnace system for temperature, atmosphere and uniformity.
Which furnace is right for my process?
It depends on temperature, atmosphere, part and quantity. Based on your process, our specialists recommend the optimal furnace type – with no obligation.
How do hardening, tempering and annealing differ?
Hardening produces a hard but brittle structure by austenitising and rapid quenching. Tempering then removes that brittleness at 100–700 °C. Annealing instead serves stress relief, softening or structural transformation at 450–1100 °C.
What temperature ranges do the processes cover?
Drying 50–350 °C, tempering 100–700 °C, annealing 450–1100 °C, hardening 750–1100 °C, carburising 850–1000 °C, sintering up to 1300 °C. Preheating spans 80–1200 °C depending on the downstream process.
